Etsy Round-Up: Christmas Wedding Details

etsy-roundup

So, I am sort of a Christmas junkie. And when you combine that with my love of all things wedding, you can only imagine how I feel about Christmas weddings! Here are a few great details I found on a recent trip through Etsy to help you plan your winter event!

I love this burlap ring pillow. Perfect for a charming rustic ceremony.

Give eco-friendly favors that are also festive with these bird seed ornaments.

Decorate the door to your venue with a monogram wreath.

Put wooden candle holders around your ceremony and reception to lend warmth to the chilly day.

Use this cake topper, personalized to look like you both standing next to a fir tree.

I love this cheery Christmas wedding invite and the cherry red color palette!

Do you have a flower girl who wants to be a princess? Crown her with this wreath of berries and frosty leaves.

By the way, we also should announce that Marywon our Williams-Sonoma giveaway, and Jeannine won our Storkie contest. Congrats!

Newlywed Perspective: Anne Loves Personality Tests!

momber-resize-personality

My family is weird. I can admit this. I can think it through and roll it around in my brain and accept it as truth, fact, whatever. But I'll also be the first to admit that I like the weirdness. It feels nice and homey to me, like family dance parties on Christmas Eve and philosophical discussions on road trips. So what I should probably be telling you is that I am weird. But that's okay, because Shayne loves me because and in spite of my weirdnesses.

I'm telling you this because I have a weird family thing to share with you today: my family loves talking about personality traits. Have you ever heard of the Myers-Briggs test (if you haven't, Google it and then take it. So much fun.)? Or the Strengths-Finder test? Or half a dozen others? We love them. We love analyzing people's quirks and characteristics and figuring out how those quirks fit into a person's perspective on life and the way they gather information and make decisions.

Oddly enough, none of us had any interest in studying psychology.

My family also has bad manners sometimes. For example, on one occasion my father, brother, Shayne and myself were all at lunch together. And, unfortunately, my father, brother and myself proceeded to analyze Shayne's personality according to the Myers-Briggs test right there at the table (I know, awful. I apologized later when it occurred to me that maybe Shayne didn't want us to analyze him. We picked on my brother too, I promise.). We then talked him into taking the test for himself to see the results and analysis, just for fun (we were right on, by the way).

We saw, through the test, some things we already knew about each other and some things we didn't know about each other, particularly in the way that we make decisions. Or at least, whether or not we knew them, we didn't really understand them. I got some interesting insights into who Shayne is and he hopefully got some interesting insights into who I am.

Family weirdness and personality test ambushes aside, it's good to know who you're marrying. And it's good to know why they are who they are and how they deal with conflict and stress and how they make decisions (whether they're a logical thinking-type like my husband or a touchy-feel emotional nutcase like myself). And it's even better to remember (because this one is hard sometimes, friends) that different is different. It isn't better, it isn't worse. I once had a friend who somehow managed to label me as an introvert (truth) and then make it sound like I was less than she was, or that I didn't like people or I didn't need friends. It was hurtful to the extreme. And it's so not how it works! I love and respect Shayne for his differences, and understanding them more clearly only makes that easier.

If only everything was so simple!

How long before final divorce decree is issued in louisiana?

divorce

Question by man in the box: How long before final divorce decree is issued in louisiana?

I live in Iberia Parish in Louisiana, and I was wondering how long after all the court costs are paid is the final divorce decree issued? I represented myself in the divorce, and she had an attorney. The judge here in 16th Judicial has already granted the divorce, all that needs to be done is paying the fees. How long after the fees are paid is the actual final divorce paperwork given to each of us to sign and have it all finalized? We are both looking to get remarried to other people, which is why I am curious. Thanks in advance to all who have input on this situation.

What is the difference between divorce and annulment?

divorce

divorce

Question by Average Misanthropic: What is the difference between divorce and annulment?

For of all, I hate divorce and I fear if I married one day, I’ll get divorced and lose what I worked hard to get since the US court system is gender biased.

My parents have been going through a nasty divorce for almost 2 years and my dad says men are typically screwed after the divorce.

Would it be better if a couple had an annulment instead of a divorce?

Best answer:

Answer by ?Invisible Pink Unicorn?
A divorce is the termination of a marriage that did exist. An annulment is the undoing of a marriage as if it never existed. An annulment is only available under limited circumstances.

After 2 years your not eligible for an annulment

Steps:

1. Separate eggs so you have a bowl of egg whites.

2. Use the paintbrush to apply a thin layer of egg whites onto a piece of fruit (work on one at a time or they will dry too quickly).

3. Roll the fruit in a shallow bowl or plate of sugar.

4. Fill in holes by sprinkling more sugar on the fruit.

5. Let the fruit dry for about 20 minutes and repeat once.

Tips/Mistakes:

Small fruit works best. Try using small tangerines, apples, pears grapes or oranges. Be sure to use very fine sugar or it will clump. If you are using fruit without long stems, get some skewers so you have something to hold onto when you are adding sugar to the fruit. Prepare a few days in advance and style in a small wooden bowl with ribbon in the center of round reception tables.

William: What Vintage Really Means and How to Use it in Your Wedding

vintage-bride-wedding-dress-paper-hearts-jessica-claireWith return of classically-inspired looks (often perfectly aged like a fine cabernet), I ask, "What vintage are you?" A peculiar question I know, but as the tony fashions of yesteryear become the chic looks of our wedding designs today, I want you to know you do have options.

Vintage today means well-tailored, elegant and smart, and has evolved into multiple stylistic genres classic, modern and artisan. No longer does the idea of something old, antique or used equal a lacy, floral endearment. Instead the sleek, even edgy, lines a Modernist craves can be found amidst the same settings of curls and swirls a traditional classicist finds appealing.

If you are like so many other fashionable brides who desire a vintage look, first consider defining which style you are going for. Gilded, silvery motifs eluding to honored traditions are typically for the more classic at heart. Aged, patined and slightly worn themes often work well for those going for a more natural or rustic look, such as farm to table. Contemporary schemes work well with retro and modern lines, like those of the 60's and 70's era.

Once you have a clear focus of which period you like the most, start to think about how you will inspire your overall design with a dash of dated details. For example, consider selecting a single statement piece that will be placed in a high visibility location, such as the guest book area, to firmly establish your theme. Often, you can find the right piece in granny's basement, local thrift store or garage sale; wherever you find it, it should not be new. No matter what, don't be afraid to mix eras if they work well together – there should be no rules.

Question by princess: How do I switch legal separation over to divorce without having a lawyer?

I am currently legally separated but I would like to get it switched to divorce. Been legally separated for 6 months now and want a completed divorce, but she won’t change it. My ex wife has a lawyer and she is the one that filed for legal separation. I would like to switch it over to divorce but I do not have a lawyer. So how can I do this? I live in Indiana.

Answer by jrdm77
You’re avitar is female…are you really a man?

Anyway, I think you will need a lawyer. Uncontested divorces can be as low as $ 500-700, but is hse’s contesting, it could get a lot more expensive. Have you tried asking her what you need to do to move to the next step? If she will not communicate with you, you need to hire a lawyer to communicate with her lawyer. Sorry.

Can a finalized divorce be voided if the wife knowingly did not tell the judge about being pregnant?

Question by A.L.: Can a finalized divorce be voided if the wife knowingly did not tell the judge about being pregnant?

Couple of divorce lawyers said divorce can not be finalized while the wife is pregnant. So a friend of mine’s wife did not tell the judge she is pregnant in order for the divorce to be finalized. Can the divorce be void if the count find out but it’s already finalized? Can she be in any trouble? This case is in the state of Ohio.

Best answer:

Answer by miabella
I am in the UK and it doesn’t matter if the woman is pregnant or not when she files for divorce so unless the law is different over there I cant tell you, seems a strange situation though to have to stay married just because you are pregnant. Wouldn’t suit me at all, if its over its over.

What are some tips to help one cope during a divorce?

divorce

Question by Wonder Woman: What are some tips to help one cope during a divorce?

You divorce someone you have been married to for 10 years; the person you THOUGHT you would spend the rest of your life with. When you have a kid so you know you still have to still speak to the person and you really don’t want to. How do you go forward from being with someone you care so deeply for and all of a sudden your living separate lives. Obviously, this question is best answered by someone who has went through a divorce. I’m sure its different for the person who wants the divorce but the person who doesn’t want the divorce but has no choice is what I’m seeking some answers to. Thanks.

Q&A: How to file for divorce without an attorney?

divorce

divorce

Question by ?Riyen’s Mom & Ayah due 4.12: How to file for divorce without an attorney?

My friend is wanting to file for divorce from her estranged (sp?) husband but doesn’t have the money for an attorney. There are no divisions of assests and no children involved, but we can’t find the information she needs to file for divorce on her own without the 1,000 attorney fee in Oklahoma. Does anyone know of a government based website with the forms or a way she can go about doing this?

Best answer:

Answer by David S
She should visit the Clerk of Courts at her county courthouse. They can help guide her, and may have the forms she needs, or a link to them. She can also find what she needs at the web site Legalzoom.com.

Engagement Re-Run: A Retro Carnival Engagement from Ardent Photography

Can you believe that it’s almost Thanksgiving? We’re having a big turkey dinner here in the office this afternoon and I can smell the turkey frying (because everything tastes better fried, of course…).

And while, I love the holidays, Rachelle and Alan’s carnival shoot makes me yearn just a bit for the softer days of summer. Where you can get away with strapless, polka-dot dresses, rides on a ferris wheel and sharing ice cream with your honey.

Rachelle and Alan wanted a retro engagement shoot and I love that they committed to it fully. They headed out to Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver (a park that fits the retro bill with its 100 year history) where Ardent Photography captured a couple that knows how to have a good time together.

Black Friday Favorites!

Confession: I LOVE Black Friday! Whereas most people loathe the crowds and hate getting up early, I find it sort of invigorating. When I say I love everything about Black Friday, I mean it. I love the cheap coffee that stores put out on buffet tables alongside stale donuts in order to pacify the mob from turning on them when the discount cashmere goes out of stock. I love the satisfaction of buying $ 2 DVDs, even though as I write this, many from last year remain wrapped in their cellophane. I love scoring that awesome front row parking space, and yes, I insist on circling for 45 minutes to get it. But I do understand that I am rare, and that the majority of you have avoided it at all costs. But no more! Now the online stores have just as many, if not more, great deals over the post-Thanksgiving weekend. I have found my favorites, and wanted to share them, so that while I am taking names and throwing elbows in the electronics section, you can be shopping in your flannel pajama pants with a cup of cocoa. Yep, I’m that nice. Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S. Some of these deals run through Friday, others on Monday, so check each site.

First, check out this set of adorable cups from Sur La Table. Perfect for gifts to the soon-to-be in-laws!

So the holidays are the perfect time to not be healthy. At your Christmas party, fry made-to-order appetizers such as onion rings, fried pickles (they are amazing…just trust me), or yam fries (if you just can’t be truly evil to your diet). From Chefs.

Want to save money on your bridesmaid gifts? Give them these fantastic clutches from Dessy to go with their dresses! I have one and still use it.

This faux fur throw from Pottery Barn will give your mother all of the Doctor Zhivago glam with none of the guilt.

I think coffee should be its own food group. Thus, I have two coffeemakers for you. The one on the left is a super cool single cup model from Target (perfect for the brother away at college), the one on the right from Bloomingdale’s has a thermos-style pot that is terrific for entertaining.

My soul giggles a little whenever I look at these cutie-patootie bowls from Crate & Barrel. Will I be taking a break during my Black Friday shopping extravaganza to buy these online? Yes. Yes, I think most certainly so.

Until I saw this little wonder from Williams-Sonoma, I had no idea what a “ebelskiver” was. And now, I must have them and eat them all the time. They are little Danish pastries that you can stuff with ANYTHING: bacon or chocolate or jam or diced apples…

Last, but certainly not least, is this set of journals from Uncommon Goods designed to be shared between you and your honey. For all of us gals who buy Cosmo just for the quiz (stop pretending like you have NO idea what I’m talking about), this is pretty much the sweetest, most fun journal you are ever going to have. Fill it out and give them to each other on Christmas morning. Full disclosure: these aren’t on sale, but they were just too great to not mention.

useuncommon

Again, have a great holiday weekend, and we will see you again on Monday!
